M&L Print

It's been a while since I've posted anything on here, so I thought I'd start the year with a Christmas gift that I crafted for my boyfriend. I bought the letter tags from East of India via a lovely shop in Skipton and mounted them in a simple frame. It's a nice reminder.

One of my good friends got married at the end of July and I was honoured to join her on their big day. The venue was amazing & the bride looked beautiful, the groom scrubbed up well too. As part of their wedding present I created them a bespoke print as a keepsake of their special day. I also designed some wrapping paper with their nickname "chric"(you'd understand if you knew them). I wanted to keep the print in-line with their wedding stationery so I lifted out a shade a pale plue and polka dots.

I really like this these prints by Leah Flores Designs. I like the way she's layered hand-drawn style fonts over photography and worked into it with vibrant colour or geometric shapes.

Another find from website Hello Lucky is illustrator Jacqui Lee. She has a new collection of wedding stationery on the site which I think is beautiful, the example above shows a really nice approach to florals. Crossing over to her website you can see a lovely illustrative style & a lot of collaboration and variety of work. I've added a few of my favourites above.

Print for Love of Wood

Something Blue Wedding Letterpress Print Image from Etsy page £15
Vintage Bake More Cake Letterpress Print Sky Blue. Image from Etsy page £15
I spotted Print for Love of Wood at the Saltaire Arts Trail a couple of weeks. The owner's, Jacqui Sharples, stand really caught my eye as I wandered through the crowded venue. She had brought along a press and displayed her pieces in old suitcase, there was a very vintage / make do feeling about it all. I really like letterpress and the quality it can give to an image or piece of type. I love the textures it leaves on different boards and the colours look amazing. I've post a couple of pieces that I loved on the day and you can purchase them via her etsy shop, they are really reasonable for prints, great ideas for gifts, especially for wedding season approaching.

Lazy Oaf

Lazy Oaf Bonjour Bebe Card
Lazy Oaf Party Beard Card Ginger
Lazy Oaf Intimate Card
Lazy Oaf Squeeze Card
I really like Lazy Oaf's range of cards (just one string to their bow). I love the sentiment, illustration & colour (where applied), the cards are really silly & funny, if you know my sense of humour you will know that I've giggled reading all of them. I think H will especially like the bonjour card at the top. Lazy Oaf also produce t-shirts, accessories and lifestyle products. The brand was started over 10 years ago on a market stall in East London but its now grown and they sell their work in over 150 stockists worldwide.

Her website shows amazing examples of graphic design, illustration, print, photography & plush.  I have posted a few of my favourite pieces above - I especially like the 2 prints - one for me & the other for H. I love her colour palette & materials, its very soft and easy. May have to add her shop to my Etsy favourites.

To Do List

Meet More People - Stop being an unsocialable hermit
Travel More - Definatley
Take a Class - I could think of a few inspiring ones
These images are from a beautiful 2 min animation by Motion & Graphic Designer Yaniv Friedman. The short video called "To Do List" highlights all of the things that we should or shouldn't be doing to live a more rewarding & inspired life, I may have to take him up on some of the points - especially "Travel More". I couldn't embed the video so click here to see it on Vimeo.

James Gulliver Hancock

Prize Winning Pies by James Gulliver Hancock
All the Buildings in New York by James Gulliver Hancock
Josh Pyke Only Sparrows by James Gulliver Hancock
I keep spotting illustrations by James Gulliver Hancock around the web and I really like his style, I love pen & inky drawings with quirky lines and hand drawn style fonts. He brings a lot of character to simple things like maps, its like jumping into a Mary Poppins map. He is really versatile too and covers areas such as typography, advertising, animation & exhibitions to name a few, you can even buy his prints. Wouldn't mind one of them hung on my wall.

Jessica Hische

Today is the Day diary by Jessica Hische, image from Pretty Paper Things
Friends of Type project by Jessica Hische
Village Voice Siren Fest flyer by Jessica Hische
Jessica Hische is a designer & illustrator who creates beautiful lettering & typography work. She has received high praise from many in the industry and has been listed as one to watch. Her work is a mixture of personal projects, collaborations and clients such as Tiffany & Co and the New York Times.
I first spotted her work when one of my friends bought her "Today is the Day" diary, its a great format product, not to small that you have to use a microscope but not to big that its like a brick, you can start the diary at any time through out the year by writing in the day & month. I like Jessica's lettering style and I really admire anyone that can create type.
